The NORWEGIAN Language: Norwegian is a member of the North Germanic, or Scandinavian, group of the Germanic subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages. Norwegian is spoken by about 4 million people in Norway and another million in the other Scandinavian countries and North America. Norwegian is a daughter language fo Old Norse. Today there are two official forms of Norweian: bokmal (book language) and nynorsk (new Norwegian). Both bokmal and nynorsk are employed by the government, the schools, and the mass media, but bokmal is by far the more widely used of the two, especially in educatioin and literature. Some efforts have been made to fuse the two forms of Norwegian into one common Norwegian tongue called samnorsk (common Norwegian), and there is hope that this can be accomplished. Noregian grammar is fairly simple. Norwegian employs the Roman alpahbet. The Pimsleur courses use the bokmal dialect of Norwegian.

Set a Goal - Decide how many minutes each day you are going to set aside for your Norwegian studies. Stick to this no matter what comes about. Setting a goal to study each day will help you more quickly achieve your goal to learn Norwegian fast.
Set a Time - Know at what time you are going to study Norwegian each day. This is part of your goal setting but of equal importance to your success. Your time might be first thing in the morning. Or it might be on your evening commute home. Whatever the time is, stick to it.
Take Notes - Buy yourself a notebook to use for your Norwegian studies. In your notebook take notes of the words or phrases that may be difficult for you to remember. Spell them out. Write their definition. You’ll be surprised with how much this will help you in your goal to learn Norwegian fast.
Collect Norwegian Articles and Pictures - Keep a folder and collect Norwegian articles and pictures about the language and country you are learning about. You might find an article about Norway. Add those to your folder. The internet is full of Norwegian language newspapers. Print off some articles to look over and see how many words you recognize.
